As a result of this presentation, delegates will be provided an insight into new initiatives, concepts, and ideas in the field of periodontology. Delegates should have a broader understanding of the new classification system and treatment guidelines, alongside improved confidence with applying to clinical cases.

Aim

  • Provide delegates with an understanding of latest EFP initiatives to manage periodontitis and the oral-systemic link.
  • Provide delegates with an understanding of the emerging evidence linking periodontal disease with obesity and obesity related diseases including diabetes and how to apply this in practice.
  • Provide delegates with an explanation for the rational for a new updated classification system and treatment guidelines and increase the confidence of delegates using them.

  • Identify:
    - The link between periodontal disease with common chronic health conditions and the need for improved cooperation with other health care professionals.
    - The need for a new classification system and more comprehensive guidelines.
  • Discuss:
    - New materials and concepts in periodontology.
  • Apply: practical methods to screen for chronic health conditions linked to periodontitis and implement new guidelines in a busy, clinical environment.
